Julia Watson is an artist and visual practitioner based in Cornwall.
A drawing artist currently based in Cornwall, Julia graduated from Falmouth University with First Class Honours in BA Drawing and undertook a residency at Totnes Art and Design Foundation Course.
Her interests in grief, the uncanny and memory has run throughout her work since 2016, carried by the framework and rules of architectural and figurative drawing. Working mainly with graphite and charcoal, Julia excavates spaces within paper plains, to find the liminal space in which visceral emotion often lies. Using techniques and grounding, the spaces draw you in. She has been working with colour more frequently over the past few years, using this to unlock a new dimensionality.
She dabbles in illustration, but often struggles to bridge the gap between believable and the aesthetically enticing, straddling image making and the desire to dig deeper into a scene.
